Labor Caucus Co-Chairs Respond to the Supreme Court Declining to Review the Illegal Firing of NLRB Member Gwynne Wilcox
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Labor Caucus Co-Chairs Steven Horsford (NV-04), Mark Pocan (WI-02), Debbie Dingell (MI-06), and Donald Norcross (NJ-01) issued the following statement in response to the Supreme Court declining to review President Trump’s illegal firing of National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) member Gwynne Wilcox:
“President Trump’s illegal firing of NLRB Member Gwynne Wilcox was an unprecedented and illegal attack on the NLRB. The lack of a quorum caused by her firing stalled thousands of cases, denying workers the justice they deserve when companies violate their labor rights, and undercut the agency’s important mission to protect working people.
This action is a stark reminder that this Administration continues to prioritize the needs of billionaires and corporations over working people, embolden anti-worker behavior, and cement its legacy as one of the most aggressively anti-union administrations in American history.
By declining to reverse this blatant attack on working people, the Supreme Court has greatly damaged the independence of the NLRB. This decision gives the Administration more power over the agency tasked with protecting workers' rights and diminishes public trust that these institutions can exercise their duties free from political pressure or influence.
Workers’ rights cannot be subject to the political whims of whoever occupies the White House. We remain committed to utilizing all available tools to investigate and overturn this unprecedented action.”
