Labor Caucus Co-Chairs Statement on Outsourcing of American Jobs

September 25, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, theCongressional Labor Caucus Co-Chairs Reps. Debbie Dingell (D-MI), Donald Norcross (D-NJ),  Mark Pocan (D-WI), and Steven Horsford (D-NV) released the following statement regarding recent reports that thousands of American union jobs may soon be offshored:

“We have strong concerns about recent reports of outsourcing from major corporations such as Stellantis, as well as about failures to live up to commitments on domestic investments that were made to workers. We strongly support workers availing themselves of all available options to address these broken promises.

More broadly, these outsourcing reports clearly demonstrate that President Trump’s USMCA has failed to sufficiently protect American jobs. While Democrats were able to secure important improvements in the deal – including the groundbreaking Rapid Response Mechanism that protects workers’ rights to organize – the bottom line is that President Trump’s trade deal has not fully delivered on protecting American workers from unfair plant closures and outsourcing.

As we approach the six-year review of the USMCA in the 119th Congress, we must ensure that improvements are made to adequately protect American jobs – or else seriously reexamine whether our participation in the USMCA is fully serving American workers.”
