Congressional Labor Caucus Calls for Increased NLRB Funding in FY24 Appropriations
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressional Labor Caucus Co-Chairs Representatives Steven Horsford (D-NV), Debbie Dingell (D-MI), Donald Norcross (D-NJ), and Mark Pocan (D-WI) and Vice-Chairs Representatives Marcy Kaptur (D-OH), Nikki Budzinski (D-IL), Chris DeLuzio (D-PA), and Stephen Lynch (D-MA) led a letter calling for increased funding for the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) as Congress works to finish Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24) appropriations. As the NLRB continues to face a surge in its caseload, robust funding for the Board is essential to ensure enforcement of federal labor laws and to protect workers’ rights across the country.
"As you finalize the Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (Labor-HHS) appropriations bill, we respectfully request that you include increased funding for the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB),” the Caucus leaders wrote in a letter to House Appropriations Committee Chair Robert Aderhold and Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro. “The continued surge in caseload demonstrates the need to fund the NLRB above its FY23 amount of $299.224 million.”
In 2022, the Labor Caucus helped lead the effort to secure a $25 million increase in appropriations for the NLRB – the first increase in funding for the Board in nearly a decade. This funding increase allowed the NLRB to fill critical vacancies, increase staff pay, and avoid furloughs, resulting in an increased number of field staffers after 11 consecutive years of decline. However, case intake has continued to outpace increases in field staff since 2022, making clear the need for further funding increases in FY24.
