Labor Caucus Co-Chairs Statement on Fatal Shooting in Minnesota

January 24, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Labor Caucus Co-Chairs Steven Horsford (NV-04), Mark Pocan (WI-02), Debbie Dingell (MI-06), and Donald Norcross (NJ-01) issued the following statement in response to the fatal shooting of Mr. Alex J. Pretti, a member of AFGE Local 3669, by federal immigration enforcement agents in Minneapolis, Minnesota:

“We are heartbroken and outraged by the death of Alex J. Pretti, a dedicated public servant and union member. His tragic death is deeply disturbing and raises serious questions about the conduct and oversight of federal immigration enforcement operations.

Union members – and all Americans – are entitled to dignity, respect, and the fundamental right to protest without fearing for their lives. What we saw today shakes those basic principles to their core. The labor movement stands for solidarity – and it will not be divided by fear or intimidation. We join Alex’s family, his fellow AFGE members, and concerned communities across the nation in demanding transparency, accountability, and an end to enforcement policies that endanger the very people they are meant to protect.”
